How to Implement a Smokefree Policy - 4. Develop the policy

The starting point for the policy formation will be provided by the results of the consultation.

info Some of the areas which the policy could cover are:
blue bullet Operating principles to guide the policy
blue bullet Places and times (if any) that smoking is permitted
blue bullet Provision of smoke-free rest areas
blue bullet Arrangements/provisions for smokers(litter bins/external ash trays)
blue bullet Arrangements for visitors or members of the public who visit
 the premises
blue bullet Contractual obligations or conditions – time allowed for smoking
breaks, clocking on/off, additions to working day to equalise
 working time with non-smokers
blue bullet Complaints procedure
blue bullet Consequences of failure to comply
blue bullet Support for smokers who wish to quit

The policy will need to be regularly reviewed after implementation. Procedures should be set up to review the policy, ensure compliance and resolve disputes.
