Here are some ideas for raising sponsorship:
Car Boot Sale – Minimal organising and you get to rid your home of unwanted items!
Raffle – Send letters to local businesses asking them to sponsor you or donate a prize to your raffle.
Family Barbecue – A great way to bring the family together and to get them involved.
Treasure Hunt – Another fun way to get your family involved.
Sell unwanted books – Take your old books to a local dealer, they normally buy them for half the RRP.
Hold a themed party – e.g. Halloween, Film Stars or Pirates. This idea is so much fun and the potential is endless.
Pub Quiz – Get your friends together for a good night’s craic.
Charity Football/Rugby/Hurling Match – Encourage some friendly rivalry between teams!
Sponsored Swim/Cycle/Fast/Silence/Walk etc – This is also a great way to get fit.
Organise a Ball – e.g. Masquerade ball, this takes quite a lot of organising but can be very beneficial as you charge a ticket fee but can also hold a raffle.
Free Dress Day – Get your children’s school or your workplace involved.
Raffle your services for a day – If you have a particular skill or hobby that could serve other people e.g. dog walking, cleaning, gardening or ironing.
Dinner Party – Invite your friends for dinner and charge them a certain amount per head. (special branded napkins are available from us!)
Bag Pack – ask a local store if you can pack bags for the Ulster Cancer Foundation, we can then supply you with buckets, t-shirts etc.
And remember:
If you have a sponsorship total in mind, break it down into manageable chunks e.g. £100 at a time.
Make it as easy as possible for people to sponsor you, e.g. collect a cheque (or offer to take it there and then), enclose a SAE when making a letter approach. Make yourself available and always return calls from people you have contacted.
Give yourself enough time. It is much less stressful to pace yourself and plan your fundraising over a couple of months..
Never underestimate the value of your friends and family, they have different contacts to you, different skills and enthusiasm.
Always take a note of anyone that has helped you in your fundraising efforts in order to thank them at the end of your fundraising, informing them of your total.
Always look to your own abilities and strengths; you might be surprised how you can make money by doing things you enjoy e.g. sports etc.
