How to Implement a Smokefree Policy - 2. Inform the workforce

The workforce as a whole should be educated about the dangers of second-hand smoke as this will make them more accepting of the introduction of a smoking policy. This could be done by holding work-based health promotion programmes, in-house publications, inviting an outside expert to talk to staff, or even simply by displaying and distributing educational literature. The staff must be made aware of the process which will be used to arrive at the policy and understand that they will have a chance to have an input to this.
