Smoke-free Northern Ireland
In October 2005, we were delighted that the Health Minister, Shaun Woodward announced that smoke-free legislation would be introduced in Northern Ireland in April 2007.
We have been working and campaigning on this issue for over 30 years and welcome this landmark decision, which was announced in October 2005.
Smokefree workplaces contribute to a healthier society, bringing significant public health benefits to present and future generations.
This is a major breakthrough in cancer prevention as it will protect the general public and workforce across Northern Ireland from the many dangers of cigarette smoke.
This section of the website outlines the dangers of passive smoking, explains how to become a smoke-free organisation/workplace and also provides a list of organisations which have already become smoke-free.
