Resources for Teachers
We have developed a Smokebusters resources pack to
provide teachers with an effective means of addressing
smoking. The pack provides information on the relevant
health, personal, social and economic implications
associated with smoking. There are also fun activities for
children to help create smokefree environments at
school, home and in their local community.
Changes in the primary curriculum for schools in Northern Ireland have placed the development of the young person as an individual as one of the main curriculum objectives. The Smokebusters club is ideally placed to help teachers deliver one of the central themes of that objective – personal health.
In 2005/2006, 29,000 children across Northern Ireland joined the Smokebusters club and evaluation shows it to be an effective means of smoking education.
