Early Diagnosis - Signs and Symptoms

Many people have anxieties about cancer and worry about their health. While certain problems may not seem serious they may prove to be warning signs of the early stages of cancer.

Click on the related link on the right to see a guide of the signs and symptoms of the most common types of cancer.

info General symptoms to watch out for include:
blue bullet A lump
blue bullet A sore which does not heal
blue bullet A mole which changes in shape, size or colour
blue bullet Persistent cough or hoarseness
blue bullet Change in bowel or bladder habits
blue bullet Unexplained weight loss

Remember – not all lumps are cancerous and many other changes can have a simple explanation so your worries may be unfounded. However, the only way to be sure is to visit your GP. Your doctor may be able to put your mind at ease immediately, but if not, he/she may refer you to a specialist for further tests.

Alernatively, you can email your queries or concerns to one of our cancer information nurses directly on and they will respond by email within 24 hours.

Do remember that the sooner a cancer is detected and treated, the better the outcome.
