The Ulster Cancer Foundation has played a pivotal role in advancing methods of cancer surveillance within Northern Ireland. We played a key role in establishing a population-based cancer registry in Northern Ireland, based at Queen’s University Belfast. Since the Registry was established in 1994, the Foundation has supported it in very practical ways – for example, through pump priming of strategic posts and grants for equipment in its early years.
We are currently funding a research project entitled ‘All Ireland Case-Control Study of Pancreatic Cancer’.
We consider that UCF funded research should be of the highest international standards and to ensure this, all proposals are externally and independently reviewed prior to approval for funding.
The Ulster Cancer Foundation encourages collaborative development of local and international cancer research with other cancer research organisations, scientists and medical personnel.
