Dealing with a diagnosis of cancer - Shock and disbelief

Shock is often the first reaction to a diagnosis of cancer. Most people think that cancer is something that will never happen to them and it can take some time for the news to sink in.

At this stage you may also be getting a lot of information about your illness. You may find yourself asking the same questions over and over again, or you may accept the news calmly.

These are common reactions to a diagnosis of cancer. Because you don’t quite believe what is happening you may not want to talk about your illness, especially to your close family and friends.
