Dealing with a diagnosis of cancer - Anger

Anger can hide other feelings such as fear or sadness and you may vent your anger on those closest to you. You may also feel angry towards the doctors and nurses who are caring for you.

It is easy to see why you may be deeply upset by many aspects of your illness and there is no need to feel guilty about your angry thoughts or irritable mood. Relatives and friends may not always be aware that your anger is really directed at your illness and not against them. If you can, it may be helpful to tell them this, at a time when you are not feeling so angry.

If you are finding it difficult to talk to your family, tell your nurse, doctor or medical social worker, as he or she may be able to help you.
