PINK LINK PROVES ?HUGE SUCCESS?
By Derval Keenan, 11/29/2004 10:33:02 AM

MORE than 4,000 individuals from across Northern Ireland have turned out to support the inaugural Gordons Chemists / Ulster Cancer Foundation?s first ever PINK LINK event.

The huge crowds ? flocked to Gordons Chemists 39-strong chain last Friday (8th) ? to pledge their renewed determination in the ongoing fight against breast cancer.

The innovative concept ? developed jointly by The Ulster Cancer Foundation and Gordons Chemists sought to encourage individuals to come out on their lunch break and sign a pink ribbon of hope:

?The idea was simple yet thought provoking,? says Neil Gordon from Gordons Chemists.

?We invited as many people as we possibly could to our stores where they signed a ribbon with a message in memory of a loved one who had lost their life through cancer, or indeed to mark positive messages of hope in the ongoing fight against cancer. We were delighted to welcome a number of cancer survivors to the event.

?We now plan to place the signed ribbons on display across all our stores and look forward to creating a positive response for the Ulster Cancer Foundation?s fundraising throughout breast cancer awareness month.?

On Friday over £10K was raised through the PINK LINK and tickets are now available for the annual pink ribbon luncheon on the 22nd October with special guest speakers the original Calendar Girls.

The whole team at Gordons Chemists are delighted at the way they have been able to play their part in the fight against cancer.

Neil Gordon continues:

?We are Northern Ireland?s fastest growing pharmacy & health and beauty chain ? catering for families right across Northern Ireland. Our entire business is built around our customers and we employ over 500 staff province wide.

?I think the real benefit has been for us to spread our wings on behalf of the UCF across almost every community in Northern Ireland. This has brought us into contact with tens of thousands of cancer patients and survivors who supported us through the PINK LINK at our 39 store locations last Friday.

?We look forward to developing this initiative further and hope that this campaign, which has helped us foster valuable links will form a major part of our ongoing community relations programmes.?

Joyce Savage, Head of Appeals & Marketing, Ulster Cancer Foundation, ?We would like to thank all the staff at Gordons Chemist and members of the public who turned out on Friday to support this very important campaign. We would also like to thank our Combat Cancer Groups and supporters for helping to organise our first ever Pink Link. All the money raised goes towards funding our vital patient services, cancer research and cancer prevention programmes.?
