Whitenoise Provides Design Solutions for Ulster Cancer Foundation?s ?Need2Know? Project
By Derval Keenan, 11/10/2004 3:27:13 PM

Leading local charity the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) recently awarded a new contract to one of Irelands premier design studios, Whitenoise, for their sharp design solutions created for the Need to Know project which teaches young people what they ?Need2Know? about cancer.

This new project aims to encourage young people between the ages of 14 ? 16 years to begin thinking about ways to prevent cancer. Twenty-two professionals from a range of statutory, voluntary and community organisations are giving the project their full support, which has been made possible by the Big Lottery Fund and will operate, initially, across the Eastern Health and Social Services Board (EHSSB) area.

Clare Smith, Cancer Prevention Officer and Project Co-ordinator, UCF said, "Whitenoise have a unique style of communicating vital messages to an intensely media savvy audience. It is essential that young people be empowered to begin addressing health and social issues, which can contribute to the prevention of cancer. Many young people are generally unaware of cancer because they think that it does not really affect them. However as we know, cancer can touch anyone and we need our young people in all communities to be more proactive and try to reduce their risk factors.?

This new partnership between UCF and Whitenoise was celebrated last weekend as Rory Jeffers a Designer at Whitenoise and Clare Smith scaled the 4,408ft summit of Ben Nevis to raise vital funds for the lifesaving work of the Ulster Cancer Foundation.
The average ascent of Ben Nevis takes around eight hours, five up and three down reaching the ?roof of Britain,? from where, on a clear day, there are spectacular views of the Western Isles however the Scottish hills can also introduce walkers to wind, hail and snow making an assent an even more rewarding experience. There are still a few places for this years Ben Nevis Challenges on the 1st and the 15th October when supporters will be joined by Everest and North Pole explorer Hannah Shields. If you would like to take part please contact UK Outdoor Pursuits on 028 9043 9898.
