Today the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) has urged the public to contact their freefone helpline if they have any worries or concerns about cancer following Eastender?s current storyline where popular pensioner, Dot Cotton is undergoing tests for suspected kidney cancer.
This powerful storyline will see one of Britain?s most admired soap characters struggle to confide her darkest fears about the disease with family and friends.
Arlene Spiers, Chief Executive, Ulster Cancer Foundation said, ?Fear and anxiety are common emotions associated with a diagnosis of cancer. We would encourage the public to contact our freefone helpline for sympathetic and confidential advice and information about the disease. It is available not only to patients but also to relatives, friends, health professionals and anyone seeking cancer related information.
The Helpline is manned by specially trained nurses who provide accurate and easily understood information on all aspects of cancer. UCF?s Freefone Cancer Helpline number is 0800 783 33 39.
?As with any cancer diagnosis, this new storyline is an emotional roller coaster for Dot. The storyline conveys a strong message that cancer can occur at any age however the key message is that an early diagnosis and treatment leads to a better quality of life.?
If you have any concerns about cancer please call UCF?s Freefone Cancer Helpline for information, support or counselling on 0800 783 33 39.
