Representatives from nine European countries are joining the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) who are the European Co-ordinators of the Quit & Win Programme on 6th & 7th August, in the Malone Lodge Hotel, Belfast to discuss this year’s European-wide smoking prevention and cessation strategy aimed at 14 – 25 year olds.
Cathy McAleenan, UCF Quit & Win Co-ordinator said, “We are delighted to welcome
the member countries of the Quit & Win Project who are meeting to exchange ideas and strategies on how to help young people give up smoking and to prevent others from starting.
“Representatives from countries such as Finland, Greece, Germany, Iceland, Spain and Sweden will be presenting their plans for the year ahead to share cross cultural ideas to help create an overall plan for this year’s programme. In addition observers will attend from 3 new EU member states, Romania, Latvia and Czech Republic with a view to developing this initiative in their own countries.”
The Quit & Win project has been running for 4 years and encourages young people to remain non-members or quit smoking by incentives such as holidays or cash prizes. For further information about Quit and Win please contact Cathy McAleenan at the Ulster Cancer Foundation on 028 9049 2007.
