On Yer Bike
By Eilish Martin, 8/28/2002 4:33:42 PM

The Ulster Cancer Foundation has issued an ?on yer bike? challenge to help raise funds for its vital work in the fight against cancer.

We are giving people two chances to take part in the Coast to Coast cycle event in England.

The 149-mile route is from St Bees Head on the far west coast of Cumbria across to Robin Hood?s Bay on the east coast of the North Yorkshire Moors.

The event will be held from April 17-21 and again from April 24-28, with three days of cycling on each occasion.

Neill Grainger, UCF senior appeals officer, says: ?It?s not a race ? we will be riding at a leisurely pace, covering around 50 miles on each of the three stages.

?There?ll be plenty of time for people to enjoy the marvellous scenery in the Lake District, the Pennines and the Yorkshire Moors.

?Apart from having an enjoyable time, participants will know that sponsorship money they raise will help a very worthwhile cause.

?Many people have given their time and energy to raise funds for us in recent years and I am sure that we will again have an enthusiastic response.?

The UCF is organising a sterner cycling test from 3-18 May, covering the most famous route in Britain... the 874 miles from Lands End to John O?Groats.

Full details of the events can be obtained from Neill Grainger or Sarah Atcheson at UCF headquarters ? 028 9066 3281.
