The Ulster Cancer Foundation are currently working together with the Peninsula Healthy Living Partnership to raise awareness of their Freefone Helpline service in the local area.
Clare Smith, Cancer Prevention Officer, explained, ?We are delighted to be working with the Peninsula Healthy Living Partnership and we are keen to offer all our services to patients from the Peninsula. We want people in the local area to know that they can contact our free helpline for sympathetic and confidential advice and information. It is available not only to patients but also to relatives, friends and health professionals and anyone seeking cancer related information.?
The Helpline is manned by specially trained nurses who provide accurate and easily understood information on all aspects of cancer. The Freefone Cancer Helpline number is: 0800 783 33 39.
Local woman Joan Wright contacted the helpline when she first heard the distressing news that a close relative had been diagnosed with cancer. ?I had been a supporter of the Ulster Cancer Foundation for some time and knew that they ran a free phone cancer helpline. I wanted to speak to someone who understood about the various aspects of a cancer diagnosis without bombarding my relative with my many questions. I found the helpline nurse to be very helpful and she put my mind at rest over some worries and questions I had. I would encourage anyone to contact the helpline with any questions they may have whether it is for themselves, friend or relative.?
