The Ulster Cancer Foundation has launched its campaign for Europe Against Cancer week (October 7th ? 13th) with a call to local people to follow the cancer prevention code.
Gerry McElwee, The Foundation?s Head of Cancer Prevention and Chair of the Europe Against Cancer (NI) Committee said:
?This 10 point code is a straightforward way to inform the public on how they can reduce their risk of cancer. The advice contains suggestions for a healthy lifestyle, on health issues in the workplace and encourages people to seek early diagnosis.
?We know that we could prevent over half of all cancers if people followed this advice on healthy diet, not smoking and taking care in the sun. In addition many more cancers could be treated successfully if people reported suspicions symptoms early. Our current Pink Ribbon Campaign encourages women to be breast aware and avail of breast screening services?.
The Ulster Cancer Foundation provides a wide range of cancer prevention, information and patient support services which can be accessed via the Foundation?s freephone helpline ? 0800 783 33 39. These are available free of charge to professionals and the general public.
