UCF’s freephone helpline has been widely praised by people who took part in an independent evaluation.
Indeed, 95% found that the clarity of information and support they received was either good or very good.
Among the other findings:
· 81% chose to share the information they received if they had called on another’s behalf
· 88% acted on the suggestions they received during their inquiry
The team of nurses who staff the service are also praised for their communication skills, knowledge and sympathetic manner.
The survey was carried out by Lynn Ferson, a psychology student at Queen’s University.
Ruth Campbell, UCF head of care services, says: “We are delighted with this independent evaluation, which shows that our helpline is an essential service and
greatly valued by all those who use it.”
More than 3,000 calls are made to the helpline every year from across the spectrum... cancer patients, their friends and families, health professionals and the general public.
