New Years Resolution Help a local Charity

The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) is encouraging local people to kick-start the New Year by supporting their growing shop network, while having some fun!
Whether you have a passion for fashion or an eye for design, volunteering in a charity shop would be a great way to showcase your skills and raise money to help local people affected by cancer.
Hilary Scott, Shops Co-ordinator, UCF said, Volunteers make a vital contribution to our work at UCF and it also brings benefits to the individuals involved, improving their sense of well-being, meeting new people and it can also be a great way to gain some valuable new skills.
A recent study by TimeBank, carried out in 200 of the UKs leading businesses, revealed that 73% of employers would employ candidates with volunteering experience over one of those without. A further 94% of employees who volunteered to learn new skills had benefited either by securing their first job, increasing their salary, or by being promoted.
Hilary said, Our volunteer programme is as flexible as each individuals commitments allow. We understand that people are very busy in their day-to-day lives but, by simply donating a few hours per week, volunteering with UCF can add incredible value to our work and help to improve the lives of local people affected by cancer.
How to get involved
Everyone has something to offer as a volunteer. You do not need any special skills as you will receive on-the-job training and support. Spring Clean
You can also help support UCFs shop network by having a Spring clean, clear out for cancer. UCF shops will gratefully accept all donations of any unwanted items of clothing, bed linen, bric-a-brac, CDs, books, shoes and handbags and any other household items. A number of UCF shops also accept a wide range of furniture, which can be collected, as can larger donations (over 8 black bags of goods).
As a local charity, UCF depends on the support of local people to help stock their shops with resalable items. This in turn generates the income needed to continue developing care services for cancer patients and cancer prevention programmes to help save lives in Northern Ireland.
