UCF host Laryngectomy Conference

The Ulster Cancer Foundation, in association with the National Association of Laryngectomy Clubs, will be hosting a conference for laryngectomy patients, carers and health professionals. The event will take place on Wednesday 16th November at the Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast.
Alan George, Head of Care Services at UCF said, The conference will cover a wide range of topics of interest to those affected by head and neck cancer. In addition to speakers, there will be information stands and workshops focusing on the needs of the laryngectomee patient before, during and after treatment.
The keynote speaker is Molly Henriques-Dillon, specialist nurse in head and neck oncology. She will be joined by Alex McGuigan, Vice President of the National Association of Laryngectomy Clubs, Mick McAtavey from the Citizens Advice Bureau and Rachel Holland, clinical psychologist from Belfast City Hospital.
Approximately 130 people are diagnosed with head and neck cancer every year in Northern Ireland. UCF provides a comprehensive range of support, information and services for over 200 people who are living with this condition including support groups, counselling, freephone helpline and a patient volunteer service were those who have had a laryngectomy are specially trained to support and visit those who are newly diagnosed and facing surgery.
