Lord Mayor Officially Opens New Cancer Charity Shop
By Derval Keenan, 9/26/2005 2:58:08 PM

The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Wallace Browne joined the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) to officially open UCF?’s tenth charity shop in Northern Ireland.

UCF?’s latest retail development and information point is based in Finaghy at 137 Upper Lisburn Road, Belfast where The Lord Mayor dropped in, hoping to pick up a bargain!

Hilary Scott, Shops Co-ordinator, UCF, said, ?“UCF?’s retail network has grown from five to ten shops in the last three years, providing a vital source of income as well as raising awareness about our work in the community.

?“Our shops are also a great place to pick up a bargain. We pride ourselves not only on the quality and range of our goods but also on sensible, realistic prices, so our customers get value for money and our work gets the support it deserves.

?“We look forward to developing this latest retail venture and to meeting local people from the area. Our shops have received incredible support from local communities across Northern Ireland and without them our contribution to UCF?’s life saving work wouldn?’t be possible.?”

As a local charity, UCF depends on the support of local people to help stock their shops with items for sale. This in turn generates the income needed to continue UCF?’s work, helping local people affected by cancer.

UCF shops will gratefully accept all donations of any unwanted items of clothing, bed linen, bric-a-brac, CD?’s, books, toys, shoes, handbags and any other household items ?– simply fill up a bag and bring it in.

Hilary continued, ?“Anyone who wishes to volunteer a few hours per week to work in our new charity shop will be made most welcome. We offer a comprehensive retail training programme up to level 2 for any trainees or volunteers who are placed with us, so if you think you have the enthusiasm and business acumen to work in a busy shop environment please get in touch by contacting Marlene at UCF on 028 9049 2007.?”
