The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) wishes to congratulate the 3,000 local people who have scaled the 4,408ft summit of Ben Nevis over the past five years raising a staggering £1 million for the charity.
Neill Grainger, Senior Development Officer, UCF said, We would like to thank all the past and current participants of our Ben Nevis Challenge as well as their relatives and friends who have supported them. The Ben Nevis Challenge is one of our most successful fundraising events and we are delighted to have reached our £1 million target. This money will provide a better future for people with cancer in Northern Ireland, by helping fund our vital patient care services, cancer research and cancer prevention campaigns.
This year over four weekends, departing on Friday 19th August, 16th September, 30th September and 14th October, UCF will be taking groups of walkers on a sponsored ascent of Ben Nevis, Britains highest mountain. The average ascent takes around five hours and only three hours to come down. The maximum gradient is 1:5, so there is no climbing involved, and any normally active person should have no problem reaching the roof of Britain, from where, on a clear day, there are spectacular views of the Western Isles.
One participant described the Ben Nevis Challenge as, One of the best things I have ever done. Another added, It was a marvellous achievement on a personal level. I met some lovely people and enjoyed spectacular views.
If you would like to register or find out more information about the Ben Nevis Challenge please contact UK Outdoor Pursuits on 01942 826256 or log onto www.takeupthechallenge.com/ucf It costs £39.50 to register for the event and each participant is asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £400. This will cover insurance, transport, hotel accommodation, all meals, guides and a celebratory party with certificate of achievement.
So why not take up the Ben Nevis Challenge today and raise money to help all those affected by cancer in Northern Ireland.
