HIGH HOPES FOR CANCER CHARITY
Slieve Donard will be the starting point for an event that the Ulster Cancer Foundation hopes will help raise funds for its vital work in the fight against cancer.
The charity is one of the organisers of the Four Peaks Challenge from 20-22 June and it is looking for local people to take part.
After first walking to the top of Slieve Donard, participants will have two ascents on the second day - to the peaks of Snowdon in Wales and Scafell Pike in the English Lake District.
On the third day walkers will make their way to the top of the UK?s tallest mountain, the 4408-ft Ben Nevis in Scotland.
Northern Ireland people will be joined by entrants from England, Scotland and Wales during the challenge, which has been organised with the assistance of UK Outdoor Pursuits.
Ferries and coaches have been arranged to transport walkers to the various points during the event.
Neill Grainger, UCF senior appeals officer, says: ?Many people have given their time and energy to raise funds for us in recent years and I am sure that we will again have an enthusiastic response.
?Apart from having a very enjoyable time, participants will know that sponsorship money they raise will help us in our lifesaving work?
The UCF will also lead three ascents of Ben Nevis in the autumn and a walk in Connemara
Full details of all events can be obtained from Neill Grainger or Sarah Atcheson at the Ulster Cancer Foundation, 40-42 Eglantine Avenue, Belfast BT9 6DX: telephone 028 9066 3281.
