CHARITY ASKS FOR MORE KISSES Care2kiss?
By Eilish Martin, 1/4/2005 2:12:18 PM

A local charity is asking people to do more to observe the Christmas tradition of kissing this year – all in a good cause of course.

The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) and media partner The Sunday Life are having some festive fun this Christmas by asking friends, relatives, neighbours, lovers and maybe even politicians throughout Northern Ireland to send Christmas kisses by text, while donating money to the Building for Life Appeal.

Simply text the word KISS to 64646 and you’ll be messaged back with your very own ‘virtual mistletoe’. This then allows you to pass on a kiss to the love of your life, while at the same time raising money for UCF’s new Cancer Care Centre of Excellence.

UCF need to raise £1.3 million for the 10,170 square feet development that will significantly upgrade facilities and services for people with cancer and their families.

Joyce Savage, Head of Appeal and Marketing, UCF said, “Every year in Northern Ireland more than 8,500 people will be told they have cancer and around 3,600 families will lose a loved one to the disease. As the demand for our work increases, our aging and unsuitable building has made it more and more difficult to deliver the services that cancer patients, health professionals, and our community, have the right to expect.

“This new cancer care centre will enable us to respond better to their needs, providing additional services and improving the outlook for future generations at risk from the disease. There is no doubt that cancer is a very serious subject but we like to show that there are fun ways to help fight the disease,’ Joyce said.

Why not show someone you care this Christmas with ‘virtual mistletoe’ by texting your virtual kiss, or ask the object of your affection if they’d Care2Kiss?! Texts cost £1.50 plus your normal operator rate. 75p per text will go towards UCF’s Building for Life Appeal.

If you would like to donate to the Building for Life Appeal, it couldn’t be easier.
1) By cheque – make payable to UCF Building for Life, sent to Building for Life Appeal, Ulster Cancer Foundation, 40-44 Eglantine Avenue, Belfast BT9 6DX
2) By credit card – please call the credit card hotline on 028 9049 2007
3) At any branch of the Northern Bank – just quote ‘UCF Building for Life’ account number 61250701 sort code 95-00-05.
