Eamonn Holmes supporting Combat Cancer Month in March
Dear Editor
I was delighted to be associated with the Ulster Cancer Foundation’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign last October.
May I now seek some space in your columns to draw attention to Combat Cancer Month in March, when the foundation will be holding its main fundraising event of the year, the Daffodil Appeal.
UCF Combat Cancer groups have organised flag days across the province and there will be Daffodil collection boxes in shops and businesses.
The people of Northern Ireland have responded very generously to the appeal in the past and may I ask them to do so again.
There is hardly a family in the province that has not been affected in some way by cancer and for some 30 years the UCF has played a leading role in the fight against the disease.
Cancer patients and their families are helped through a wide-ranging programme, including counselling, support and advice, and almost £400,000 is spent every year on cancer research.
All of this, of course, costs money – and the cost of providing UCF services has risen to £2 million this year, compared with £1.1 million five years ago.
It is essential that there is no reduction in the lifesaving work of the Ulster Cancer Foundation – and with the help of your readers we can help achieve this goal.
Yours sincerely
Eamonn Holmes
Vice-Patron,
Ulster Cancer Foundation
