The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) congratulate Bentley’s of Holywood on opening a new smokefree bar lounge at 62A High Street, Holywood.
UCF presented the bar lounge with a special ‘Smokefree Workplace’ certificate for protecting the health of their workforce by providing an environment free of tobacco smoke.
Proprietor, Sam Holmes said, “Bentley’s of Holywood offers a totally smokefree environment for staff to safely and comfortably work in and for customers to enjoy a relaxing coffee, quiet drink or a bottle of wine with friends.”
Bernie Neeson, Smoking Cessation Co-ordinator, UCF said, ”We congratulate Bentleys of Holywood for protecting the health of their staff from cancer causing substances. Smoking is the largest single cause of preventable death and ill health in our society today, killing 2,800 people in Northern Ireland every year.
“UCF have consistently placed our demand for smoke-free environments at
the forefront of our public campaigns for healthy public policy. We are especially keen to inform employers and employees of their rights and responsibilities. This allied with UCF’s training, advice and consultancy service, will empower local people to achieve positive changes in their work and social environments.
UCF recently launched a new leaflet ‘For a Smoke-free Environment - Passive smoking damages your health’. To order a free copy or for further information on UCF’s smoking cessation services contact Bernie on 028 9049 2007 or log onto ulstercancer.org
