Queen's University, Belfast

In the Department of Oncology at Queen's University the Ulster Cancer Foundation named Chair Professor Patrick Johnston leads time limited focused programmes of cancer research in the Foundation's own Cancer Research Unit. This research is developed to the highest international standards.

Examples of UCF funded research programmes are:

  • BRCA1 Group (UCF funded 1997-2000)
  • Developmental Pharmacology (UCF funded 2000-2003)

University of Ulster

In the Department of Radiation Science at the University of Ulster, under the direction of Professor Bernie Hannigan and Professor David Hirst, the Foundation supports time limited high quality cancer research.


For example:

  • 'Tumour specific activation drugs using a novel enzyme- specific mechanism' (UCF funded 1999-2002)
  • We are also committed to jointly funding (with the University of Ulster) a new research post based in the Cancer Centre
