Daffodil Appeal 2005
3/1/2005 to 3/31/2005

The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) has been running the Daffodil Appeal in Northern Ireland successfully for the past 17 years, which has enabled us to carry out vital work such as cancer research, education and prevention programmes as well as providing

The Daffodil is now recognised as the international symbol of hope in the fight against cancer and we need to raise £100,000 through this year’s appeal, which will fund care services locally for cancer patients, as well as bringing hope for the future through cancer research.

Joyce Savage, Head of Appeals and Marketing, UCF said, “The incidence of some cancers continue to rise in Northern Ireland, but many cancers previously thought incurable are now being treated successfully. UCF is one of the leading investors in cancer research in Northern Ireland and our policy, implemented by an advisory panel of cancer research experts, is to pump-prime innovative and groundbreaking research in our local universities. Research funded by UCF in Northern Ireland continues to shed light on this complex disease, its causes and treatment, and advances are being made.

“However, it remains the case that there is little that causes as much anxiety and distress to people and their families as a diagnosis of cancer. Many feel frightened and very much alone. UCF provides care and support for people with cancer and their families when they need it most.

“Our work is made possible by the commitment and generosity of many people and has ensured that substantial advances are being made. There is of course considerable work to be done and as a local charity, which receives no statutory funding, UCF relies totally on voluntary contributions from the community for its work. UCF is a local charity, which spends all funds raised in Northern Ireland for the benefit of local people.

UCF will have their collection boxes filled with Daffodil flowers and new glitzy
pins displayed in various retail outlets, companies and organisations throughout March. If you would like to lend your support to the appeal please order a box of daffodil pins today by contacting Leonne at UCF on 028 9049 2007.

If you have any concerns about cancer or would like information on the support services UCF offer, please contact UCF’s freefone helpline on 0800 783 33 39.
